PORTWELL’S INTEL® ATOM™-BASED ECX SBC & SYSTEM
RECEIVE EDITOR’S CHOICE AWARD
FROM TWO PRESTIGIOUS INDUSTRY MAGAZINES
Military Embedded Systems and Embedded Computing Design both praise the low-power, fanless small form factor products

FREMONT, CALIF. -- September 2, 2008 -- American Portwell Technology, Inc., a member of the Intel® Embedded and Communications Alliance (Intel ECA), is pleased to announce that its enterprising use of products based on the new low-power Intel Atom™-processor has garnered praise from Military Embedded Systems magazine and Embedded Computing Design magazine. Both magazines have selected Portwell’s ECX form factor SBC and system for the prestigious Editor’s Choice Award.
Based on the Intel® Atom™ Z500 and Z510 processors and using the Intel System Controller Hub US15W and ECX form factor, Portwell’s PEB-2736 micro-architecture SBC, and PCS-8230 in-vehicle infotainment platform incorporate a fanless design and compact size that benefit low-power systems and handheld mobile devices such as portable POS, medical healthcare, mobile kiosk, entry-level gaming, digital signage and in-vehicle infotainment.

“Low-power Atom™-based SBC”

Chris A. Ciufo, OpenSystems Publishing, Group Editorial Director, Military and Aerospace Group, picked Portwell’s PEB-2736 for his Editor’s Choice Award and featured the product on page 34 of the June 2008 issue of Military Embedded Systems magazine. According to Ciufo, the rugged industrial and military markets are too compelling to ignore and Portwell is bringing its “considerable technical leverage to bear” in bringing COTS to the military. In addition to listing the features of Portwell’s PEB-2736, Ciufo adds, “And since this is a PC, you can run Windows, XPe, Linux, and a myriad other OS choices on this small form factor board.

“Atom™-driven in-vehicle infotainment platform”
Jerry Gipper, OpenSystems Publishing, Editorial Director, featured Portwell’s PCS-8230 for his Editor’s Choice Award in the August 2008 issue of Embedded Computing Design magazine (http://www.embedded-computing.com/products/EditorsChoice/). Gipper states that in-vehicle electronics have made huge leaps in the past few years to the point where we can now economically put substantial computing power in our vehicles in the form of infotainment systems that make the driving experience more pleasurable. He highlights Portwell’s PCS-8230 low-power in-vehicle embedded PC infotainment system that utilizes the Intel® Atom-based processor. Gipper concludes by saying that the “PCS-8230 has all the necessary features for today’s infotainment systems.”

The first of many

“We are obviously very pleased that our Atom™-based products were selected for Editor’s Choice Awards by not one, but two prestigious industry magazines,” says Frank Shen, American Portwell Technology’s product marketing director. “It more than validates our decision to manufacture a range of small form factor products based on Intel’s Atom processor.”
Shen attributes Portwell’s success with both the PEB-2736 and PCS-8230 to the company’s time-to-market decision. “In particular,” Shen states, “by implementing such strategic decision with our engineering expertise, we are able to make the PCS-8230 the first Atom™-based in-vehicle infotainment platform.”
