FREMONT, CALIF–
April 3, 2007: American Portwell Technology, Inc., a world-leading
innovator in the industry of Communication Appliances – (Network
Security, Network Management, Network Gateway), announces NAR-7090,
a new high computing power and high bandwidth dual 64-bit Intel®
Xeon® processor platform that extends the power of Portwell
existing communication appliance portfolio. Using the Intel®
5000P chipset to support either the Dual-Core Intel® Xeon
processor 5100 series or the Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® processor
E5335 with 1333 MHz front side bus, the NAR-7090 facilitates the
ultimate computing and I/O performance for software providers
who need a platform with greater computing performance reliability
and manageability, greater power efficiency, higher throughput,
faster memory and I/O bandwidth, faster data movement and protection
against drive/data failure.
NAR-7090, in 2U height, features extremely high and flexible network
bandwidth configurations that range up to 16 PCI-e SFP connectors
or 34 PCI-e copper ports. The modular design for front-access
network ports can be configured as copper, SFP, copper bypass
or fiber bypass.
Available now, NAR-7090 dual CPU platform is the ideal solution
for security applications such as Enterprise Internet Security,
Firewall, WAN optimization, Unified Threat Management and Triple
Play broadcasting.
Smaller Footprint and Decreased Operating Costs
“Today’s communications market trends indicate a continued need
to improve application performance which results in demands for
higher computing power, manageability and creates an increasing
need for greater security,” says Aaron Chiang, Senior Product
Marketing Manager, American Portwell Technology, Inc.
“However, the challenge is to raise the stakes while decreasing
operating costs, integrating legacy and emerging applications.
The solution lies in platforms such as NAR-7090, a high-performance
CA platform for the Enterprise that utilizes the latest quad-core
or dual-core Intel® Xeon® processors, and provides a smaller
form factor (20inch) that operates in a more compact network environment
at reduced power.”
”
High performance accompany with flexibility
“The Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® processor provides
breakthrough performance and energy-efficiency for compute-intensive
communications platforms,” said Joe Jensen, General Manager of
Intel’s Embedded Markets Division. “Customers can benefit from
quad core computing power with the Portwell NAR-7090 and its variety
of Ethernet modules and connecting capabilities.”
According to Frank Shen, Director of Product Marketing Dep., American
Portwell Technology, Inc., the modular design for front-access
network ports on the new NAR-7090 can be configured as copper,
SFP, copper bypass or fiber bypass module. From the traditional
Copper or Fiber module, customer also can choose programmable
bypass module. In practice, the programmable bypass mode allows
network packets to flow in and out unattended when the appliance
is shutting down. The programmable next boot-up status means that
the Bypass or Open mode can be determined in advance before system
shut down. This means that the system can be predetermined to
reboot to the preferred status and is immediately ready to serve.
Instant status can be changed on the fly by a series of software
commands. By providing a self-governing Watchdog Timer for each
Bypass segment and each segment can operate independently.
“All in all,” says Frank Shen, “the new NAR-7090 offers software
providers the opportunity to meet the needs of today’s security-conscious
Enterprise by delivering server-class performance in a compact
footprint, at a competitive price.” “NAR-7090 system will satisfy
customers who look for the variety of Ethernet card module design
and can be very flexible to configure for different allocations”.
