with support for INTEL® ATOM® D510/D410/N450 Processors
New CAR-1000 series features 6 GbE Ports and Manufacturer Default Reset Button

FREMONT, CALIF. —November 30, 2010—Unlike commercial motherboard-based systems, CAR-1000, the latest 1U rackmount communication appliance from American Portwell Technology, Inc. (, features a reset button that will change the system back to the manufacturer’s default setting, if required. CAR-1000 is also perfect for customers who need 6 GbE ports and applications that require the high-performance and low power consumption of Intel’s dual-core Atom D510 processor. American Portwell Technology is a wholly owned subsidiary of Portwell, Inc., an innovative network solutions provider and an Associate member of the Intel Embedded Alliance.

The new CAR-1000 1U rackmount communication appliance features Intel’s Atom processor D510, D410 or N450 with ICH8M I/O controller. It supports: fanless operation (when used with the N450); up to 4 GB DIMM with D510/D410 and up to 2 GB DIMM with N450; 6 GbE ports (Intel 82583V) with two bypass segments; two SATA ports and one CompactFlash card slot; on board RS232 via an RJ-45 connector and two USB ports; one Mini PCI slot and one PCI slot; LEDS on front panel for Power and HDD status; reset and factory defaults button; and an 80W AT open-frame power supply.

Available now, CAR-1000 is the ideal solution for system integrators (SI), OEM customers, software developers and SOHO and remote/satellite office users in security networking applications such as network intrusion, prevention and detection; spyware control; content filtering; P2P control; and instant message recording.

Engineered with the customer in mind

“The new CAR-1000 is engineered with the customer in mind,” says Mark Huang, American Portwell Technology’s product marketing manager, “Unlike commercial motherboard-based systems, Portwell’s CAR-1000 1U rackmount communication appliance actually includes a reset button that can be used to return the system to the manufacturer’s default setting. A small thing that is typical of Portwell’s customer-centric thinking and attention to detail. What’s more,” Huang adds, “we offer customers a choice of three Intel Atom processors -- single-core N450, D410 and dual-core D510 -- so they can configure the combination of high-performance and low power consumption that best suits their needs, while 4 GB DDR2 easily handles memory-intensive applications.”

Long Product Lifecycle Support

“A lot of thought went into the design of the new CAR-1000,” says Frank Shen, American Portwell’s product marketing director. “There’s a Mini PCI slot for WiFi and Crypto card options, one available PCI slot for half-height/half-size PCI cards, such as modem, VoIP adapter, analog WAN card and Crypto adapter, plus an Ethernet bypass function for High-Availability applications. And as always,” Shen adds, “our customers not only benefit from the most up-to-date technology and features, but they also gain peace of mind from the long life cycle support (7+ years) inherent with every Portwell product.”
