Portwell’s New NAR-7102 Network Appliance Utilizes Latest Intel® Xeon® 5600 Platform with
Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) Instructions

Built-in AES increases packet encryption/decryption performance

FREMONT, CALIF. February 24, 2010—Customers using networking security applications that need the flexibility to configure for different allocations and a variety of Ethernet interfaces will find that their needs are met completely with NAR-7102, the latest 1U rackmount network server from American Portwell Technology, Inc., ( a wholly owned subsidiary of Portwell, Inc., an innovative network solutions provider and a member of the Intel Embedded Alliance. The new NAR-7102 supports two six-core Intel Xeon 5600-series 32nm processors or Intel quad-core Xeon 5500-series (formerly codenamed “Nehalem”) 45nm processors. Each processor contains up to 12 MB of Level 3 cache and the Xeon 5600-series processor supports Intel’s AES instruction set for fast and secure data encryption and decryption.

Portwell’s new NAR-7102 server grade network appliance features a 1U rackmount chassis; Intel 5520 chipset with Intel QPI up to 6.4 GT/s; 10 DIMM slots for DDR3 ECC 800/1066/1333 memory up to 80GB; flexible Ethernet modules; dual USB ports; two PCI-E GbE management ports; one RJ45 system console; two 16-character LCD display module options: EZIO-300 (4 buttons), EZIO-G400 (4-button 128x32 graphical mode) or EZIO-G500 (7-button 128x64 graphical mode); one PCI-E expansion slot; and a full-range 275W 1U 1+1 redundant power supply.

The NAR-7102 is a compact 1U platform with dual Xeon CPU support for up to 24 threads that each CPU has six cores and two threads per core. This power and flexibility makes NAR-7102 the perfect choice for high performance networking applications such as UTM, IPS, IDS, Anti-virus, Firewall, VPN, Content Filtering and much more.

Enhanced Network Security Application Performance

“NAR-7102’s support for the Intel Xeon 5500/5600 processor series includes Intel QuickPath Interconnect (QPI), Turbo Boost, Virtualization and Hyper-Threading technologies, integrated power gates and automated energy efficient enhancements that combine to improve system speed and versatility while providing users with greater control over their energy spending,” says Mark Huang, American Portwell Technology’s product marketing manager. “In addition, the new NAR-7102 delivers excellent Ethernet performance using the latest PCI-E Gen2 solution and with DDR3 memory up to 1333 MHz, the new 1U rackmount network server supports greater memory bandwidth and higher performance for data-intensive applications,” Huang confirms. “Not only that,” he adds, “but the NAR-7102 also supports a varied selection of Portwell Ethernet modules, including two-port 10G SFP+ based on Intel’s 82599 controller, eight or four-port GbE copper or fiber based on the Intel 82580 controller or eight-port copper based on the Cavium CN-5640 8-core security acceleration module.”

Fast and Secure Data Encryption and Decryption

“NAR-7102’s ability to support Intel’s AES instruction sets will really benefit our customers,” announces Frank Shen, American Portwell’s product marketing director. “AES provides important security benefits because it not only enables the NAR-7102 to ensure fast and secure data encryption and decryption, but it also offers a significant increase in performance when compared with current pure software implementations. And as always,” Shen adds, “the NAR-7102 is designed for OEM branding. Plus, our customers not only benefit from the most up-to-date technology and features, but they also gain peace of mind from the long life cycle support (7+ years) inherent with every Portwell product.”
