New ROBO-8912VG2A provides greater computing power,
lower power consumption and is easy to upgrade


FREMONT, CALIF.– July16, 2007 -- American Portwell Technologies, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Portwell, Inc., a world-leading innovator in the Industrial PC (IPC) market and a member of the Intel® Communications Alliance, has launched its new ROBO-8912VG2A in response to market demand for latest Intel Core™ 2 Duo processor PICMG 1.3 system host board that combines greater computing power with lower power consumption. The ROBO-8912VG2A system host board utilizes the energy-saving advantages of Intel’s Core 2 Duo processor, which blends high bandwidth with the higher energy and execution efficiency of the traditional NetBurst Microarchitecture (Pentium® 4 processor) and Mobile Microarchitecture (Pentium M processor), and innovations such as wide dynamic execution, intelligent memory access, advanced power capability, multi-core optimized cache and single-cycle SSE/2/3.
Available now, Portwell’s newly architectured ROBO-8912VG2A system host board with Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor generates a maximum of 65W TDP, a considerable Improvement in low power consumption than the socket 775 Pentium® 4 processor. This lower power consumption, combined with greater computing power and network bandwidth, makes the ROBO-8912VG2A system host board the ideal solution for applications in medical equipment, industrial automation, kiosk, process control, semiconductor equipment and network security markets.

Cost-savings across the board
“The use of Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor improves the overall stability and reliability of the entire system,” says Jack Lam, American Portwell Technology’s senior product marketing manager. “System noise and heat are reduced through more intelligent fan speed control algorithms as a result of the integrated Intel Quiet System Technology.”

Backward processor compatible
Portwell’s ROBO-8912VG2A system host board supports Intel® Core™ 2 Duo,
Pentium® D, Pentium 4, or Celeron® D in an LGA775 socket that is equipped with dual-core, hyper-threading, EM64T, EIST, XD and VT technologies.
The ROBO-8912VG2A PICMG 1.3 system host board adopts the latest Intel® Q965 Express chipset that supports the Intel Core™ 2 Duo processor, which has speeds of up to 1066 MHz. In addition, Portwell’s new ROBO-8912VG2A system host board features a 4 GB DDR2-800 memory capacity.
The Q965 chipset is also embedded with the fourth generation Intel® integrated graphics controller, and a Graphics Media Accelerator 3000 that supports DirectX 9.0, Shader Model 2.0, and 256 MB of video memory

Higher bandwidth and enriched I/Os
Portwell’s ROBO-8912VG2A system host board includes PCI Express x1, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, and six SATA 300 connectors for increased bandwidth, plus: eight USB 2.0 ports; dual serial ports and a parallel port; GPIO; and Watchdog timer.

“The impact of PICMG 1.3 can be seen easily throughout improvements within Portwell's single-board computer architecture,” adds Shen. “PCI Express and other slot interfaces are now implemented over the backplane.”
According to Shen, the benefits of the backplane approach include greater expansion on the slots, minimized downtime during service or repair, and future processor technology upgrade.  Additional dedicated interfaces, such as SATA or USB 2.0, can be implemented via the backplane, so that the slot can be fully utilized for other functional expansion.
