ROBO-8913VG2AR -- Advanced Computing Slot Board with Intel® Q35 Express Chipset Operates Large Data Streaming and PCI Express Interfaces More Effectively


FREMONT, CALIF.– November 2, 2007 -- American Portwell Technologies, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Portwell, Inc., a world-leading innovator in the Industrial PC (IPC) market and a member of the Intel® Communications Alliance, today announced its latest PICMG 1.3 (SHB Express) System Host Board (SHB) the ROBO-8913VG2AR based on the Intel 82Q35 Graphics Memory Controller Hub, the Intel I/O Controller Hub 9 (ICH9) and the Intel Core™2 Quad/Core™2 Duo processor.
Portwell is a development leader for SHBs utilizing Intel® architecture and offers a variety of solutions for PICMG 1.3 products. The System Host Board (SHB) ROBO-8920VG2 is based on Intel E7520 chipset and the System Host Board (SHB) ROBO-8912VG2A is based on Intel Q965 Express chipset. A series of backplanes to fit PICMG 1.3 SHB generate PCI Express x16, x8, x4 and x1 expansion interface.

The evolution of PCI Express benefits applications such as image processing, chemistry analysis, and flight simulation by using a faster processor. The new PICMG 1.3 architecture allows system to utilize PCI Express and PCI expansion, therefore, fine and high quality display can be supported with a PCI Express x16 graphics adapter and storage can be extended to PCI Express x4 RAID card. Plus, some PCI I/O cards, the system can be more than twice as powerful than traditional PICMG 1.0, which only supports PCI/ISA expansion. Portwell, a major supplier of PICMG 1.x platform, maximizes the scalability of PCI Express by providing wide selection of  product choices.

eSATA is one of the special functions that the Intel® I/O Controller Hub 9-DO (ICH9-DO) supports. “Imagine the time consumption when you download or upload data to computer via USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 interface,” says Lam. “Simply consider eSATA as an alternative solution to an external interface that is five times faster than USB 2.0 (300MB/s versus 480M bps). Nowadays, people not only have USB flash disc but also mobile rack with 2.5" hard drive in it for large data exchange. Once the hard drive natively supports eSATA then you will not waste your precious time on waiting. Beyond storage device, many devices with USB interface are no longer limited by the interconnection bottleneck.”

  • Dual 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM DIMM sockets, support dual-channel DDR2 667/800 system memory up to 4GB
  • Intel® Q35 Express chipset with integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3100 (Intel GMA 3100) core that supports MPEG-2 Decode, DirectX 9.0c, OpenGL 1.4 and Shader Model 2
  • External expansion cover single PCI Express x16 link, one PCI Express x4 link (can be configured as four PCI Express x1) and four PCI devices via backplane
  • Dual Gigabit Ethernet ports on-board help management of different domain of network
  • Six SATA ports (two of them route to backplane); twelve USB 2.0 ports (four of them route to backplane)
  • Intel® Matrix Storage Technology provides RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 and combination of two levels for better performance and access time
