New NAR-5530 provides Intel® Q965 platform and Core™ 2 Duo power

FREMONT, CALIF. -- May 21, 2007 -- American Portwell Technology, Inc., a world-leading innovator in the industry of Communication/Internet Security Appliances, introduces NAR-5530, a new powerful, cost-effective, dual-core CPU platform that complements Portwell’s expanding portfolio of existing communication/Internet security appliances. Combining the latest Intel® Q965Express Chipset with 1066/800 MHz FSB and the Core™ 2 Duo processor, the new NAR-5530 provides the benefits of multi-core technologies and energy saving. It also backward supports Pentium® D and most available desktop CPUs in an LGA775 socket.
Portwell’s NAR-5530 features high bandwidth network ports including up to three GbE ports on PCI bus and six GbE ports on PCI-E x 1 bus to meet the growing variety of application requests. For fail-safe concerns, NAR-5530 features the option of up to 3 bypass segments based on Gen-2.0 standard. This allows software to program the open/bypass mode for power failure or next system boot-up. Other features include two USB ports, PXE, console redirect, one 3.5” SATA HDD (upgrade to two), Type-1 Compact Flash socket, and the LCD user panel with 2x16 characters.
Available now, Portwell’s new NAR-5530 optimizes cost, power consumption, network bandwidth and system performance, so it is the ideal solution for communication/security applications such as Enterprise Internet Security, Firewall, WAN optimization, Anti-virus server, Unified Threat Management, Media Gateway and Triple Play broadcasting for both the enterprise and medium-sized offices.

Maximally cost-effective
“When we designed the new NAR-5530, Portwell pulled out all the stops to meet our customers’ demands for increasing product performance and power, while reducing the costs of heat and power consumption,” says Shineyang Shih, American Portwell Technology’s sales director. “High computing power and low energy consumption is a major consideration when determining the efficiency of computing platforms -- particularly in the arena of communications and network security, where applications often run 24/7.
“At one time, costs restricted the use of solutions like these solely to the enterprise. Today, however, products like our new NAR-5530 are able to bring this combination of high performance, high reliability, low-heat and space-saving platforms to the medium-sized office too,” adds Shih. “It’s what our customers asked for, and we’re pleased to be able to fulfill those needs and reduce the total cost of ownership with the NAR-5530.”

Built-in expansion for Crypto and other add-on cards
Portwell’s new NAR-5530 automatically includes one built-in PCI slot and two USB ports. “The integrated PCI slot meet customer requirements for easy expansion with Crypto or other add-on cards,” says Frank Shen, American Portwell Technology’s product marketing director. “The PCI slot can be used for the quick and easy installation of the Crypto module. Or the customer can also install two 3.5˝ HDDs. By providing the option to install two 3.5˝ HDDs, the new NAR-5530 optimizes the storage of system data and/or log files,” Shen explains.
“In another effort to produce a configuration flexible enough to meet the expanding range of customers’ applications,” adds Shen, “the new NAR-5530 incorporates an option of two or three bypass segments by request.”
According to Shih, today’s networks demand multi-core technologies because more and more processing applications run in parallel. “Blending the multi-core processing capabilities of Intel’s Core™ 2 Duo with the inherent power of the Intel® Q965 chipset,” explains Shih, “means we’ve been able to help our customers address these computing challenges by offering significant performance and efficiency in the same package. And with the longevity of lifespan built into all Portwell products, the NAR-5530 will be ready to meet them,” he adds.
“Like the other members of the NAR family,” continues Shih, “the new NAR-5530 offers software providers the opportunity to meet the needs of today’s security-conscious users by delivering server-class performance in a compact 2U rackmount, at an attractive price.”
