AMERICAN PORTWELL TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES WORLD’S FIRST 400 Gbit/s ETHERNET 1U NETWORK SECURITY APPLIANCE

New CAR-6010 rackmount appliance, powered by dual Intel® Xeon™-SP processors with great flexibility of networking bandwidth

CAR-6010

FREMONT, CALIF. — March 4, 2019 — American Portwell Technology, Inc., (https://www.portwell.com) a wholly owned subsidiary of Portwell, Inc., a world-leading innovator in the embedded computing market and a member of the Intel Internet of Things Solutions Alliance (Intel ISA), is pleased to announce CAR-6010, a 1U rackmount appliance with extremely flexible network configurations that provide Ethernet bandwidth of up to 400 Gbit/s. “In fact,” says American Portwell’s product marketing manager Andy Chen, “we are proud to say this is the world’s first appliance of its kind.” The CAR-6010 offers four slots for Ethernet expansion, each slot is based on PCI Express 3.0 x16 throughput, such expansion slots offer maximal Ethernet connection of 32 x 1-Gbit ports, 16 x 10GBit ports, 8 x 40Gbit ports or 4 x 100Gbit ports. In addition, CAR-6010 also offers 1 port for IPMI remote management, 1 port for console redirect and 1 port for local management.

Saleable computing power from dual Intel Xeon Bronze to Platinum Processors
“The networking bandwidth is not the only scalable feature of the CAR-6010,” Chen explains. “This network appliance can be equipped with dual Intel Xeon Processors (Skylake-SP) chosen from Xeon Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze series with up to 20 CPU cores, and,” he adds, “it can also be upgraded to the future Intel ‘Cascade Lake-SP’ platform once available. This will enable an option to use Intel ‘Apache Pass’ memory modules, the newest ‘Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory architecture,’ based on flash technology for higher memory capacities with existing memory slots.”

Redundant Power Supply Unit provides high availability
The memory capacity of the CAR-6010 can be equipped with up to eight DDR4 RDIMM modules with maximum speeds of 2666 MHz for an overall main memory of up to 256 GB. Two redundant power supply modules (CRPS) of 750 watts each provide the appliance with reliable and fail-safe electricity while also being energy-efficient to save costs when the device is mostly idle. The CAR-6010 also offers the option of an LCD monitor module in the front panel to display status information and system messages for easy maintenance or operation.

“With up to 400-GbE maximum networking bandwidth, two Intel Xeon Scalable Processors (Skylake-SP), and future upgradable to Intel Cascade Lake-SP processors and two redundant power supply units and IPMI interface, the soon to be available CAR-6010 is the ideal solution for Intrusion Detection and Prevention Server, SD-WAN server, Cloud Security Management Server and Content Filtering Server,” Chen confirms.
